Welcome to Blossom, Texas, population 15,000, where the small town atmosphere rings of Petticoat Junction.
Blossom County ? -- yes, the county and the town share the same name -- hosts a rodeo to kick off the fair that lasts the entire month of June.
But this year, a debate rages.
Two years ago, during the fair, a gypsy fortuneteller told various townspeople that they would strike it rich. So when a slick-talking shyster came to town, selling stock in a real estate venture, many in the community blindly jumped in and lost their shirts -- if not their entire life savings -- in the phony land deal.
For that reason, the fair board decided not to allow the carnival people to set up their rides along the midway last year, and the fair was a financial flop -- something from which the county coffers are still suffering.
This year, the Committee For Moral Behavior (CMB), in an effort to keep the town free of crime and immoral influence, insists the Fair Board not allow the carnival people to return to this year's fair -- no, they don't care that it's a different group of carnies. And the Fair Board, while concerned about allowing a bad element to return, has to consider the financial state of the town and county.
So when the carnival finally comes to town, fireworks are set to explode…
