Series Information: Works of the Pearl-Poet
Rating: Weighted - 7.47 / Average - 7.3 of 10 (13 votes)
Several poems attributed to the same unknown author.
The Pearl-Poet, or the Gawain-Poet, as he is called, probably lived in the second half of the fourteenth century, but almost nothing is known about his life. The four poems Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Pearl, Patience, and Cleanness (or Purity) are all believed to have been written by him. A fifth poem, Sir Erkenwald is also often included, although the authorship is less certain. All the poems are written in alliterative verse and use religious and allegorical themes.
