Series Information: Dahak
Rating: Weighted - 8.27 / Average - 8.3 of 10 (18 votes)
A series of three books (so far) about a self-aware moon-sized ship named Dahak, which was produced by the Fourth Imperium 50,000 years ago, and how it saved humanity many times.
The technology in this universe is similar to that of Honor Harrington's. Hyperspace travel is possible, and different 'bands' of it achieve different speeds. The weapons are similar, though there are some new ones, while others (like laser warheads) are missing. Ships are much bigger and require much larger crews, and they don't use the gravity 'wedge' for propulsion, though they do use some form of gravity-based technology.
Some things are better in my opinion - we finally have an intelligent machine, lack of which in the Harrington universe was rather unbelievable. Also, humans are bio-enhanced to a high degree - they're basically cyborgs, with a lifespan of hundreds of years, enhanced muscles, built-in neural communicators, and other goodies one might expect from such advanced technology. Overall, I think this universe is better constructed and more believable.
If you like the Harrington series, or any books about big important space battles or fighting alien invaders, you will love this series.
