Reviews of Billy (1990)

Once you get into this book and realize what's going on, you begin to hate it. I don't want to read about children being hurt. Sorry, just don't want to.
But Streiber does an excellent job of keeping you going on. You want to know what's going to happen next. Very much an edge of the seat thriller that many movies fail to even get close to.

In Billy, Whitley Strieber tackles the rarely written about subject of child abduction. Strieber really gets inside the head of a pedophile in the most unadulterated (heh) sense of the word; the book is very well researched. The antagonist is creepy and weird in much the same way that Robin Williams's character was in One Hour Photo. The characters are interesting and realistic and the dialogue sounds authentic. The suspense is literally heart pounding. I seriously mean literally. Whitley Strieber is the only author that I've read that can really do that. 8/10
