Reviews of Vector Prime (1999)

Being the first novel in the most epic Star Wars series to date, this novel did a great job of introduction. I was fascinated by the Yuuzhan Vong, a race outfitted with superior, bio-tech armor and weapony. Their ships are living beings! They also bring a religious zealotry forged in pain, and are highly offended by traditional technology.
Where the novel stumbled for me was in its presentation of main characters. The top characters of Luke, Mara, Han, and Leia are ok, but Jacen, Jaina, and Anakin (Han and Leia's children) are almost charicatures.
Vector Prime sets the tone well for the coming saga. There is love, loss, and coming of age. Overall, a good beginning to the New Jedi Order.
