Reviews of Obernewtyn (1987)

The first installment of The Obernewtyn Chronicles; Obernewtyn, is a good introductory book to the post-apocalyptic world of Misfits, the Council, and the protagonist; Elspeth. Whilst it carries well throughout, maintaining a strong aura of mystery and curiosity, the end becomes anticlimactic and almost too easy. Isobelle Carmody has done well in creating a new world, although it is evident the language has been simplified to favor the story, which in fact works for the intended audience.

I think this is a great passionate, descriptive series, a good read. The start is captivating and the end just makes you want to read on.
It is dark but Isobelle Carmody managed to make it so without it being depressing (something I am not good at) Definetely worth a look if you like those kind of stories that make you think and aren't all action.

An ok teen post-apocalytic novel. Successfully dark and brooding, overall a good atmosphere and fairly well textured world.
