Reviews of Golden Fool (2003)

Review by archaic (2007-01-06)
I thought the Golden Fool was much better than Fool's Errand. Fitz's character was once again written fantastically. The book keeps a good pace and never really seems to slow down to the point of annoyance. The plot was very well written and Robin Hobb always seemed to throw in some sort of twist when it was least expected. The setting (to my relief) was Buckkeep. The intrigue and controversy that Buckkeep brings to Fitz's character and the plot itself adds a lot to the story. The only thing that I disliked in this book (along with every book with Fitz) is the two or three chapters that consist of Fitz basking in self pity. I don't mind one chapter of it but it reaches a certain point where I have to put the book down and take a break from reading. There also felt like there was something missing without Nighteyes. I enjoyed this book and can't wait to start reading Fool's Fate.

I gave this book a 8/10
