Reviews of Backfire (2012)
Review by michael a draper (2012-09-24)
Judge Ramsey Hunt is gunned down outside of his San Francisco home. He was just beginning the murder trial for Clive and Cindy Cahill. The prosecuting attorney was usually a fierce prosecutor, now he seemed to change and then he disappeared.
Hunt is a good friend of FBI husband and wife team Lacey Sherlock and Dillon Savich. They travel to San Francisco when they learn of the shooting.
At around the same time, a message is delivered to the Hoover building for Savich, "For What You Did, You Deserve This." FBI thinks it might have to do with the judge but check the criminals Savich sent to jail to see if any of them were recently released.
FBI continue to try to break down Clive and Cindy but soon, both parts of the story merge into an explosive sequence that continues for the last quarter of the book.
I enjoyed the story and found the characters and plot to be appropriately portrayed. There were a number of clever surprises that added to the enjoyment of the novel.
