Reviews of Doomsday Book (1992)

I'm still reading the book, and I have some 200 pages ahead. The story is interesting, but I'm finding more and more ties with another books I read some months ago, Ann Benson's "The Plague Tales". I don't want to include any spoilers, but I'd like to point out that the plot, the double time line, and some other similarities seem too close to be coincidental.
Willis' works appeared some years earlier, so any possible stealing would have come from the other author. I'd like to know if someone else has reead both books and also thinks Benson could have not been original

Be warned, this is a very sad book. Very good though, if you don't mind watching an entire town die of the plague! The character studies, both of the medival townsfolk and the timetraveller observing them are well drawn and (as a complete layman) gave me a real sense of the time. The scenes in the future were well done too and a nice counterpoint.
