Reviews of Dragonfly in Amber (1992)
Review by celticfluter (2006-09-03)
This is the second in the ongoing saga of Jamie and Claire, the Outlander series. As of this writing there are six books in the series, with at least one more currently being written. Of the six books in print now, I feel this is the strongest and best written, not only for its content, which is highly imaginative and creative, but also for its unusual structure; the beginning and ending are composed of a contemporary story, with the historical drama of Jamie and Claire set in the center, a very unusual approach but also effective. The historical research by Gabaldon is once again detailed and thorough. Definitely recommended, but it is preferable to read Outlander first. While the books can be read out of order, I do not recommend it as the characters do change somewhat as they age.
