Reviews of Outlander (1991)

Review by ilovebooks (2005-11-26)
When I first began the book, I felt the concept was interesting, but I wasn't that into it. I kept reading, though, because I wanted to find out what was going to happen (would Claire go home, how would she get there, etc.) but soon fell in love with Jamie just as Claire does. My heart was soon pounding as the adventure kept unfolding, and by the end of the book the pages were flying and I couldn't put it down... the final scenes are the most heartaching I have ever read. When I was done I just HAD to read the next book in the series (Dragonfly in Amber) and ran right down to the bookstore to buy it. I also enjoyed the plot of the book more than some other "time travel" stories simply because Gabaldon had some theory about how the traveling took place, basing her "theory" on Scottish legends. I felt that this made the story much more enjoyable simply because it was easier to fall into the story and believe it could be possible. I loved this book and recommend it to anyone who loves a romantic story.
