Reviews of Collapsing Universe: The Story of Black Holes, the (1977)

Review by carrot (2007-09-16)
This book is an interesting read. A straight forward look at the force of gravity. Asimov starts out a little slow in describing the scientific aspects of the book that follows but then quickly moves on to more interesting aspects. Following a consistent path of ever increasing mass, Asimov explores the development of heavenly bodies from stellar clouds to planets to stars and beyond. It is a shame that this book was written in 1977 and thus cannot be updated to take into account the developments of the past thirty years. As a starting point for further research it is well written and clearly explains scientific findings that would otherwise require a great deal of math.
