Reviews of Education of Drusilla Strange, the (1954)

"The Education of Drusilla Strange" is a superb example of Theodore Sturgeon at his best. This is one of those stories that is essentially perfect--there is not a single word you could change and make it any better. It offers a clever concept, a nice surprise at the end, Sturgeon's trademark empathy, and a profound sense of optimism about mankind. I found myself laughing (Dru's first encounter with a car was deliciously funny); I found myself crying; I found myself shaking my head at the astonishing power of what this amazing storyteller can accomplish in 36 pages.
