Reviews of Gladiator, the (2007)
Review by johnafair (2007-06-09)
This book is rather different to the others in the series. Although still told from the point of view of the children involved, this time the children are the locals and we see the activities of the crosstimers through their eyes.
In this case, the twists of history have seen the Soviet Union winning the Cold War and now capitalism is a dirty world - a lethal word, indeed.
The crosstimers are not here to trade, these people are here to win hearts and minds, to reintroduce capitalism to a world that had forgotten the word.
Among other things, we get to see a rather nice discussion of the differences between the Europeans and Americans of the home timeline
(This review refers to the 2007 version titled “The Gladiator”)
