Reviews of Last Drop, the (2006)
Review by nowirehangers (2007-04-03)
"The Last Drop" contains three short stories. The title story is the shortest at about 25 pages. It's about what happens when a bartender serves a mysterious syrup from Borneo that causes people to change size. Next is "The Dangerous Dimension". In this story, a philosopher discovers a way to teleport himself by thought. At first, people don't believe him and the consequences are quite funny. Third is "The Professor Was a Thief". It's about a journalist who investigates the disappearance of the Empire State Building and several other New York buildings.
All of the stories are lightweight, fun pulp sci-fi. They're all entertaining without being great. The book also includes a glossary and a 30-page index of other Hubbard collections. This is a fun look back at 40s pulp sci-fi, but for 126 pages (plus mentioned extra features), it seems a bit overpriced at $12.
