Reviews of Maps in a Mirror: The Short Fiction of Orson Scott Card (1990)

Review by sqbr (2003-06-30)
I don't usually like short stories, but I loved these. I read pretty much the whole lot nearly ten years ago in my teens (some looked too scary!) and while the quality varied the best are still with me quite strongly. Some on the city (whose name I've forgotten) are a forerunner to "The Worthing Saga", which is nice. Since this collection is from before (in my opinion) Cards recent decline and he doesn't have a chance to waffle the quality is fairly high. Theres nice little interludes where he talks about the background to the story etc.
The style is very varied, and it's in sections (horror etc) as I recall.
Definitely reccomended to OSC fans. A bit of a tome if you're not one!
