Reviews of Transmetropolitan: Gouge Away (2002)
Review by mrdude (2005-02-15)
My favorite volume in the Transmetropolitan series.
This volume is much more fast passed than the last volume and I love it for that alone. The writing is great, the story compelling and the artwork is nothing but addictive eye candy. I seem to love it when spider is at his worst and in this comic he seems to do nothing but rogue reporting in the most violent manner possible.
I also noticed that the narration of the story is done a little differently than previous volumes, I'm not sure I prefer one style over the other but it might be something to watch for. Also this volume has several guest artists that "appear" throughout the volume. I myself do not read enough comics to know of them, but I can guess what strips were done by them and found their involvement to add some interesting variety to the comic. They were included in a way that adds to the flow of the overall piece rather than detracting from it, which is what I firs expected to happen.
Overall this is just a really good graphic novel. I enjoyed reading it a lot and only hope others might be able to do the same.
