Reviews of Take a Thief (2001)

Take A Thief is yet another Mercedes Lackey novel that follows the same (now) shopworn plot line. Young kid has hard life. Young kid gets chosen. Young kid finds out how nice life can be.
It seems that she is increasingly writing the sort of fantasies that are embodied in the "My real parents are going to come for me some day, and then I'll be happy" mentality that all kids daydream about now and again, but how many times does
it need to be retold? I was a fan of her first Valdemar books, but lately all it seems
she's doing is writing the same story with the character names changed.
All that said, it is still not a horrible book, and if you read it without reading all the other Valdemar books it probably would not have seemed as repetitious.
