Reviews of Into a Dark Realm (2006)
Review by johnafair (2007-03-12)
Although it's doubtful that Feist will ever be accused of writing great literature, the riftwar books are competently written and in this latest installment, the action follows three strands, with a small group of youngsters being trained up in the arts of war on their home ground of Midkemia, while their father and grandmother are off on Kelewan trying to track down the revenant horror that calls himself Leso Varen.
Meanwhile, their grandfather, Pug, possibly the most powerful wizard to have ever been born on Midkemia or Kelewan finds his quest to find what's behind the rash of 'wild' rifts appearing on both worlds taking him to new realms of existence.
Feist's background in the gaming world have been commented on in various places before and its called upon once again as the three groups face off against powers that are not, quite, overwhelming... or are they?
This is the middle book of a trilogy, and as such, the ending is rather up in the air, but for once, I am actually looking forward to the next book in the series to find out what will happen rather than to just to complete the collection.
