Reviews of Boy's Life (1990)

Review by Beaver (2003-10-28)
Boy's Life is a superb coming of age story about the magic of youth. It is also a who-dunnit, and a supernatural thriller all rolled into one. It reminded me of a cross between Stephen King's "The Body" and Twin Peaks. McCammon even writes similarly to King with flowing, readable prose that puts you in the time with cultural minutiae. The story grabbed me in right from the beginning with an ode to the magic of childhood that sounded kind of like one of those good email forwards. The setting, Zephyr, is a small town full of lots of interesting and unique characters each with a story to tell. I'll definitely be reading Boy's Life again in the future. 10/10
