Reviews of The Cellar (1980)
Review by judgement (2008-09-26)
The Cellar is an extremely sexually sadistic, explicitly violent and vividly gory novel. This one is for admirers of hard core gore only.
If one were to care to critique this novel they may say that it is short on character development and unrealistic in the amount of time it takes characters to fall in love. That would miss the point of this novel entirely.
This is a modern classic monster story. It is sadistic to a point that some subject matter is uncomfortable and handled lightly; but this is what adds to the overwhelming sense of horror.
This is the first in a four part series. The subsequent novels reveal more facts that only strengthen the appeal of this one.
Highly recommended. Despite the subject matter you don't have to be perverse to enjoy it. It's just fun.
