The Internet Book List - Spread the word

Reviews of Gypsy, the (1992)

Review by Avarith (2003-07-05)
I loved this book. I mean, it wasn't one of my top top books...but it's definitely worth a look, especially as it's a quick read. Brust's style seems to meld with Lindholm's very well. (I've read lots by Brust, but this is first of Lindholm, so it's a pretty one-sided comparison.) The style takes a bit to get used to (not difficult, but definitely differs from average), but it's beautiful once you get into its rhythm. It illuminates the characters rather well - an added level of character development, if you will. I would have liked some of the character relationships to have been a bit more clear earlier on...but we don't get everything we want. The thing this book could have most benefited from is a pronunciation guide. I mean - how in the world do you pronounce Sztrajktoro? Anyway, definitely recommend this book
