Reviews of So Vile a Sin (1997)

This book explores the ability of the Doctor to look after his companions. Roz returns to her family roots to help it maintain its power on the Terran Empire and the last remnants of stability in an increasingly unstable galaxy. As Roz says: 'This isn't history. This is family'.
Incidently, this isn't quite your traditional collaborative effort. Ben was originally contracted to write the book and had almost finished it before a hard disk crash wiped out the work in progress. Unfortunately, he hadn't taken a backup and was unable to redo the sections that were unrecoverable do to other commitments. Instead, Kate took over the project and wove her work round those remnants. It's a credit to the authors that the book meshes together so well. Indeed, its a well realised novel, maintaining a powerful story throughout the whole.
