Reviews of Doors of His Face, the Lamps of His Mouth, the (1971)

Review by clong (2006-09-02)
Out of all the many, many science fiction short story collections I have read over the years, this one stands out as one of the very best. I enjoyed virtually every story in this collection, which offers a broad survey of Zelazny's early science fiction short stories, plus a few that are probably more accurately classified as fantasy.

The title story and "A Rose for Ecclesiastes" are undoubtedly two of Zelazny's best known short works, and both are excellent. My other favorites were "The Keys to December," "This Moment of the Storm," and "Divine Madness." And Zelazny shows a nice sense of humor in "The Great Slow Kings" and "A Museum Piece," both of which are quite amusing.

I recommend this collection very highly.
