Reviews of Dead Beat (2005)

This is possibly my favorite book ever written. Humor mixed with the dangerous, terrifying villains will have you all over the emotional ranges... Threats of black mail from vampires, Big-time Necromancers make Harry's Halloween a little to... realistic, and when the going gets tough, you can always count on... History...

Harry Dresden, wizard extraordinare, knows he's in trouble when the vampire Mavra sends him a message. She has evidence that could put his good, possibly-more-than friend, Karrin Murphy in a world of hurt---unless he finds the Word of Kemmler for her. But what is the Word of Kemmler? Harry realizes soon that he's going to have to be on his toes because he isn't the only one searching. And as Halloween approaches, the race begins to get...deadly.
This is an excellent book. I was hooked from the opening sentence. The humor Harry Dresden uses when the going gets rough had me in stitches imagining the scenes. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes mystery or fantasy.
