Reviews of Galatea 2.2: A Novel (1995)

i didn't love this book. i loved the premise and that is what kept me reading, but the flow of dialogue and just the general writing style never pulled me in. there were a few notable passages that amazed me and showed incredible insight into human relationships, but not that many. I got a little lost in some of the descriptions of the scientific details in the project, maybe the book was a bit over my head (although i hate to admit that a book CAN be over my head!). all in all, a decent read, it was not unenjoyable.

An amazing academic novel. The admittedly dry dialogue and ideas presented are compelling enough to sustain interest in this novel. The story, about a man creating an artificial intelligence, is secondary to the ethical dilemmas he encounters. The ending is brilliant. One of the most interesting novels of recent times.
