While searching for the Mushroom Planet books on eBay, I found a good reading copy of this little gem, which I had never heard of. All the magic in this charming novel is real - the magic of real life eagerly lived, which is the best kind of magic. One reason we old cynics read children's books is to touch that magic, even sometimes hoping against reasonable hope to bring it into our own lives. Only love can bring that magic into our lives for good and all, but a magical writer like Eleanor Cameron, one who loves life, can bring it to us for as long as we are privileged to journey inside the heads of her characters. If you happen to stumble over this novel, be assured, it's a nice trip.
