Reviews of Green and the Gray, the (2004)

Review by johnafair (2009-02-19)
This may be considered an unusual book by those of us who know Zahn from his star wars novels, but this book, set in a New York that had barely had time to come to terms with the 9/11 atrocity, brings together three forces that look like they are going to make the streets of New York echo to the sounds of violence once more...

The Greens and the Grays had come from a planet many light years away from Earth, the last survivors of their kinds after a genocidal war on their home planet. After almost three quarters of a century of each group spreading through the city without knowing the other was still around, the two groups had found each other once more and the war is about to be re-ignited when a desperate peace solution is proposed that draws in the local law enforcement...

This is a reasonably decent book, though I didn't find the pacing all that brilliant, with the central couple, Roger and Caroline Whittier being caught up in forces that they don't understand and being used by both Greens and Grays. They seemed to spend a fair bit of their time being forced to wait around while the next plot element came into play.
