Reviews of Blood Music (1985)

This started out strong, but I thought the ending was unfocused. Excellent thriller turns spacey evolution into state where we are immortal but scattered organisms spreading vaguely across the universe. It was an engaging read, but the conclusion left me more unsettled rather than yearning for the supposed evolution.

This is a pretty good book, with some great ideas. The weld between the rather dark, realistic original novella and the grand and optimistic novel is a bit disconcerting (Once I realised it was based on a novella the discontinuity made sense!) but both are good for what they are.
The basic premise (intelligent cells) is a bit silly in my opinion, but if you can accept that everything else makes sense, though the end is pretty out there!

Excellent nanotech-nightmare plague novel by Greg Bear. A classic in the sub-genre of nanotechnolgy science fiction novels. If you like stories about people turnining into goo, then check this one out!
