Damn this series goes on and on. This being the first book in an epic loosely linked series. This book is good, no question, but is it that good: no, unfortunatly as it could have been. Good story, good writing, good charecters; but twists=0, suprises=0 unpredictable parts=0, please this book is about as unpredictable as a trout in a vice: creak, creak splat.
In conclusion this book is good but formulaic, and if you don't like it dont bother with the others as they are identical (with the exception of waylander which is quite good) 7/10 now go read some George R.R. Martin if you want epic (fantasy) war books.
