Reviews of Magician's Guild, the (2001)
Review by pettsson (2005-10-27)
This novel I picked up by chance at a railwaystation wanting something to read on the train. As I have been a vivid reader of fantasy for almost 40 years I didnt have any expectations. I noticed on the text on the back that it was the standard story of an aprentice going through the usual adventures and reaching catharsis. But,I am glad to report that this is a story that flows well, easy to relate to and allthough there are no suprises it put my mind at ease fo a couple of hours. One could argue that the Guild (The magicians university) that Sonea the main caracter is attending is a bit harry potterish(for grownups) at some times, but thats not entirely a bad thing.
I would call this a Fantasy novel for a Novice of the genre, but a quite good one. For more substance I would go to Ursula K Le Guin and likes.
