Reviews of Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret (1970)
Review by islander255 (2007-05-17)
This book is aimed at preteen/teen girls about to go through puberty and all the other teen angsts. So why is it that I, a 17-year-old male, enjoyed it so much? Simply because Judy Blume has created such an exquisite work that is upfront and boldly honest, told in a flawless flow. She faces subjects--menstruation, preteen sensuality, confusion of religion--head-on, yet she never ever EVER preaches. She simply gives the story and lets us learn from it.
And, oh, what a story it is! Sure, it might not seem like much from the back cover, but inside the pages are Margaret's fears and delights and all her keenly-felt emotions. Whatever age group and gender this book is aimed towards, anyone can enjoy it.
I read this all in one day (today, in fact, starting in environmental science class). I would have read it in one sitting, even, had I not been at school.
A must-read! 10/10
