Reviews of Talking Stone, the (1955)

Review by voralfred (2007-02-13)
A very special story. It is a mystery, not so much a murder mystery than a treasure hunt. It is one of the only three that feature the famous extraterrologist, Dr Wendell Urth (pronounced: "Earth") who knows more about the distant, wide Universe than anybody else on or outside Earth, and is so phobic of all means of transportation that he will never go anywhere unless he can walk there. Second it is one of the very few Asimov stories with non-human intelligent species. And not just any kind, a stone. An intelligent, talking, stone. Do I have to add that this story is a precious gem?
