Reviews of Flood (1985)
This is the 2nd book I've read by this author, the first one in the Burke series (original I planned on reading them in order, I kind of liked Shella better).
Despite it's length it still feels like a quick, enjoyable read (hard cover is 341 pages divided into 61 chapters, good for reading a chapter during rests at the gym). But...as gritty as people like to think Vachss is (and he can be), after the end of the main story he kind of takes a turn into sugary as all of the supporting cast comes along for a light moment.

The novel that started it all! The first of the BURKE series is an amazing thrill ride into the very heart of the darkest corners of New York City. The places, the predators and the prey. A don't miss, can't put down, heart stopping read.
