Reviews of Hunchback of Notre Dame, the (1831)
Review by Kidkarysma (2003-06-04)
After seeing the Disney cartoon and becoming one of my favorite cartoons of all time, I decided to read the book. I know Disney changes a lot, but I liked the story and characters so much I wanted to see them in their original light.
Esmeralda is more realistic than in the movie. She is a naive young girl and Hugo writes her very well. Every actress that has played her so far is too old to be accurate.
The story is realistic and I loved it. The book is incredibly readible considering its age and modern readers should love it as well.
