Reviews of Tale of Murasaki, the (2000)
Review by Zacynthus (2004-03-17)
Interesting book about the life of Murasaki the writer of A tale of Genji, arguably the first professiona author. Dalby provides an interesting view of Japanese court intrigue and social structure during the eleventh century. While being historically accurate this book is by no means dry and factual, it is the intriguing tale of a woman torn between her conflicting loyalties. Provides an interesting perspective for career mothers.
