Reviews of Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom (2003)

This book reminds me of Stephenson's "Snow Crash", in a lot of ways. On the surface both books seem to be fast paced romps with interesting characters, plenty of jargon and crazy tech. But deeper down there's actual substance. In "Down and Out" its the classic sci-fi exploration of the human condition. The protagonist's and other characters obsession and diefication of a theme park ride does a good job of examining how priorities can shift once the more base neccessites of life (food, shelter, no death!) become as effortless to satify as breathing. Cool book.
