This is a book for those who prefer inner life to outer plot. It is beutifully written while exploring the mind of its main character Juan. Read this if you like Milan Kundera, Virginia Woolfe, or Joyce. It is probably a book for guys since two females who have also started the book disagreed with my opinion that this is a great work of literature.
