Reviews of Wild Sheep Chase, a (1982)

I liked this book quite a lot. It has a good atmosphere reminiscent of noirish thrillers I have read, mixed up with a rather blunt comic edge and elements of the paranormal. Quite what was going on is very much open to interpretation although I have read that there are links with Shintoism and Japanese folklore.
The ending was probably the strongest part of the book and it is worth getting to it despite one or two rather dull chapters on the way. The characters are well defined and the overriding impression is of a slightly bizarre novel that actually runs deeper than it at first seems.
