Reviews of No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, the (1998)
Review by mojosmom (2004-12-28)
Precious Ramotswe's father dies, leaving her an inheritance which she uses to set up a detective agency. At first, her clients are few and far between, but soon her intelligence, her common sense, and her ability to read human nature make her a success. This is true even though she is not always right!
It was interesting for me to read a book set in a country (Botswana) that I am not familiar with. Smith has a real ability to give the reader a sense of place and, in this case, the history of the country as well.
I plan to read more of this series, and if that's not a recommendation, I don't know what is.
