Reviews of Wyrm (1988)

Review by synapse001 (2003-07-18)
This book held a lot of promise, and each time I got to a point where I thought "Wow this is good. Now Mark is going to screw it up. I would keep reading and be further surprised that it got better."

It's not that I don't trust the talent of the author, but I have read a lot of books like this. ME by Thomas T. Thomas. Adolescence of P1 by Thomas Ryan. to name two of my favorites. However, when the promise gets too high, most books falter.

Mark Fabi's talent continued to suprise me. The ending of the novel was a disappointment. I just don't think it held together like the rest of the book. Not that I think I could do better, or even know how a different ending is even possible. It just wasn't as convincing and visceral as the rest of the book.

I would read it again, and would read other novels by Mark Fabi. It still surprises me how well the first 98% of the book held togther. What a great read.
