Reviews of Island of Dr. Moreau, the (1896)
Review by Jago360 (2003-03-15)
Wells' ineptitude as a writer is clear in this book. Very few authors can take a possibly-interesting idea (grafting together animals and humans, in this case) and make the end result almost unreadable. "Dr. Moreau" is quite possibly the most contrived book I've ever read - illogical things happen just so that other illogical things can happen later. Wells may well have been a theorist foremost, but if so. . .he should have left the writing to someone with talent.
