Reviews of Antic Hay (1923)

Review by spiphany (2003-10-22)
Antic Hay is one of Huxley's earlier works and it is not at all the quality of some of his later pieces. I read, I think, two chapters of it and abandoned the book. It's a sort of sardonic comedy in which the characters all act somewhat bizarrely. All very senseless. People with a certain sense of humor would undoubtably find it amusing; a number of fantasy books, at least, seem to have been written along similar lines, but for someone expecting something the caliber of Brave New World it is definitely quite disappointing. It is primarily cynical, rather than critical and perceptive about society and human nature.
