one of the best book i ever read it could give harry potter a run for its money also a great read is the kingdom of carbonel. this book would make a great stocking filler for christmas. it makes you wish you were a kid all over again for a book written in the 1950s it is still as good today

This is a wonderful, charming book.
It surprises me that American publishers haven't discovered this book during the current Harry Potter craze. It's not about a wizard's school, but it seems like it would appeal to the same audience. I suppose numerous children's fantasy books have been written on the theme of "child has adventures after finding/buying magical artifact" (in this case, a broomstick). However, in this case the magic and the ordinary are so skillfully combined that it doesn't feel like simply a fantasy.
