Reviews of Satanic Verses, the (1988)

Rushdie proved his mettle with this inspired novel. Original, sharp and hard hitting fantasy highlights this tale of two men lost amid what is expected of them and what they want for themselves. From the first page, as Gibreel and Saladin plummet to the earth and their songs break out, I knew I was going to like this book. I place this book among my top ten favorites I have ever read, and it would have been among the top 5 if not for the slightly disappointing ending, which happened all to abruptly.
