| Rather similar to Piers Anthony, only not as well known. The two authors share a number of common characteristics: humorous fantasy, a fondness for puns, a tendency to mix fantasy and science fiction, both decent (but not great) writers with a tendency not to know when to stop with a series or concept. Stasheff, thankfully, does not have Anthony's adolescent male attitude about sex or obsession with perky-breasted females. Many of Stasheff's books also have a strong (slightly irreverent) Catholic element. His best books are the Warlock of Gramarye series; the others never particularly impressed me, and even the Warlock books certainly have their faults, but they're fun notwithstanding. |
