Until I discovered Salinger, I had a lot of favorite authors. But after "Catcher in the rye" and an introduction to salinger, I realized that there can be only one favorite author and that has to be Salinger.

An interesting man, if nothing else. It is unfortunate that he hates the type of person I am; those that would immediately claim "I identify so much with Holden"-- I am sure he is sick of us. . . Until recently (he is now, as of 2003, in his 90's, I believe. . I am speaking around his 80's) he would only talk to young, female fans. What a life! Now, he refuses to talk to just about anyone. According to his daughter, he has a lot of literature catalogued to be released at certain times after his death-- so we have something to look forward to once we lose this brilliant author. "Catcher in the Rye", while not particularly deep, has much that the average person can identify with, and is incredibly well-written. A good author.
