| A brilliant wordsmith. His characters (villians/antagonists) are brilliantly conceived and described - very powerful and very real characters. Barker's style is rich and complex. His ability to create a sense of dread (moreso than sheer terror) is unmatched in horror genre, imho. Barker moves the reader at will between the normal world and his nether worlds with seamless ease.
His movies are awful and do a disservice to the very high literary standard of his novels.
