Although Fight Club is his first published novel, Invisible Monsters was written earlier. Editors told Palahniuk that Invisible Monsters was simply too sick to ever be published, so he vowed go even farther with his next book (which would turn into Fight Club).

Having read only Fight Club and Survivor, my opinion of Palahniuk is that he pretty much got it right with Fight Club, but Survivor (his followup) is much more "weak" in its plot and characters. It does however run in a different vein than Fight Club, of which it explains the exploitation of today's media to further one's needs rather than exploring the mythos of men's roles in today's society. For those that are interested, be sure not to miss out reading Fight Club although it would help if you didn't already see the movie.

This guy's writing perspective is so incredibly twisted with loads of dark and cynical humour that it really makes one look more carefully and reconsider the subjects in which he writes. His books are a thing of wonder.

Quite possibly the greatest author on Earth. His books are all unique, but they all have twisted themes in common. . . he makes you think about life differently, he changes your viewpoint. The master, in my opinion.
