If asked, I wouldn't have said these would have appealledl - the overtly sexual relationship between Dalas and Rourke isn't something that I'm used to, having been brought up on Agatha Christie and Dorothy L Sayers, but RD Robb manages to pull you into the story you are reading regardless.

The 'Skiffy' content varies quite widely between books. Although these are set well into the 21st century, the stories relatively rarely depend on the SF elements (though when they do, hold onto your hat!), instead depending on the believability of Dallas and her colleagues - even the Urban Wars that Ms Robb has as part of her back story seem less unlikely now than they did when the series started :-(

I think the In Death series is a wonderfully fast-paced set of novels that just keeps reeling you back in for the next one. I got hooked, and I haven't let go yet!
